I don't believe so, at all. I cannot remember a single word from any of those lessons because my only concern would be to memorize those 10 words for the week and then the next week I would move on to the next set of 10 vocabulary words. But if this does not work, what can we do? How can we inspire our students to learn new vocabulary words? I suggest words of the day. Have students pick words from their readings for class that they don't know and have them find the definition and create a sentence with the word to present to the class. This way the students are choosing the words they don't know but would like to do and it has them doing the research.
I really believe that this will work because I remember in 8th grade my teacher was reading Twilight and she would put words on the word that even she didn't know and we would search the meanings of them together, and that is how we started to do vocabulary in our classroom. I still remember all of those words and their meanings and I can use them in conversations and in writing.
